i could be a millionaire if i had the money
i could own a mansion - no, i don't think i'd like that
but i might write a song that makes you laugh, now that would be funny
and you could tell your friends in england you like that
but now i've chosen aeroplanes and boats to come between us
and a line or two on paper wouldn't go amiss
how is worcestershire? is it still the same between us?
do you still use television to send you fast asleep?
can you last another week? does the cistern still leak? or have you found a man to mend it?
oh and by the way, how's your broken heart?
is that mended too?
i miss you - i miss you - i really do.

i've been reading browning, keats and william wordsworth
and they all seem to be saying the same thing to me
well i like the words they use and i like the way they use them
you know 'home thoughts from abroad' is such a beautiful poem
and i know how robert browning must have felt
'cause i'm feeling the same way about you
wondering what you're doing and if you need some help
do i still occupy your mind?
am i being so unkind?
do you find it very low or have you found someone to laugh with?
oh and by the way, are you laughing now?
'cause i'm not.
i miss you - i miss you - i really do.

i really do.

I'm taking part in Breakthrough Generations, and you* should too.

*With the caveat that you should be female, over 18 and in the UK, so really I'm addressing a very small percentage of the people reading this journal. But a PSA is a PSA.

Crawley has a 0.1% Labour majority. I still don't regret voting LibDem, but I do regret that come next election, Tory campaigning will be *everywhere* and they'll blatantly get back in again, since we are a lone Labour stronghold in the sea of blue that is the South-East. I stayed up til 5am to find out Crawley's results and they didn't bloody declare it til about 2pm today. *yawns*

Would anyone like a freaky Darth Vader breathing noise card thing? It was in my Empire magazine - it's basically this little cardboard thing that when you open it, it breathes like Darth Vader at you. I don't want it. *fear*

I'm clearing out stuff from under my bed, and in all the folders I used for A-levels, there are poems written in the front that I obviously came across and wanted to keep, so I thought I'd archive them here. Some I still like. Some I have no idea why I wrote them out.
Somebody Else, by Jackie Kay )
The Mirror, by Louise Gluck )
It's an excerpt from a longer poem, but I forget the title. By Pablo Neruda. )
I didn't write the title down, apparently. It's by John Smith. )
Star, by Danielle Dutton )
Memory by Luljeta Lleshanaku )
Forgetfulness, bu Billy Collins )

Ten things I've done that you probably haven't:

1. Gone fishing off the coast of West Australia and caught a poisonous blowfish for my troubles.
2. Fed dolphins.
3. Somersaulted over a horse.
4. Been stalked through the Jardins des Tuileries by an old man who "just wanted to buy me a cup of a coffee and be my friend".
5. Drunkenly waltzed with Jackie Kay at midnight.
6. Stranded someone on an island.
7. Made a pair of knickers out of a t-shirt.
8. Bailed out a flooded basement in Germany.
9. Skipped my grandfather's funeral to perform onstage.
10. Spent six hours on the phone to Australia.

I haven't really lived long enough to go and do interesting things. Maybe I should've done more on my gap year? I'll make up for it after I graduate, or something. I pretty much did this because it didn't seem to have memed its way to the brunchma people on my list, and I know that most of you will have way more interesting things to put on the list. I want to know!
